Customer Implementation Manager
The interview process had 4 stages. First was a recruiter call, then a call with two team members. The third stage was a presentation of a case study to the hiring manager and another team member. The final stage was a meeting with an executive stakeholder. The first two stages were mainly to check if my past experience matched the role and included some behavioral questions. Apparently, the hiring manager usually is present in the second stage, but they were unavailable during my interview. For the third stage, I had to do a role-play presentation or demonstrate how I would guide a client to use the Gocardless Dashboard. Even though the dashboard seemed straightforward, I didn't pass this stage. The feedback given was that my presentation was too technical and lacked specificity for the target audience. This was surprising because I don't have a technical background, so I couldn't go into much technical detail. I also consistently asked if they had any questions during the presentation, and if they felt something was missed, they could have pointed it out. The rejection felt inconclusive, and I believe I wasn't a good fit for the team. I have no hard feelings, as everyone I interacted with was very respectful and professional. The salary offered was between 40-50k pounds plus bonus, which I feel is below the market rate for 2024.

Customer Implementation Manager
It was a pretty long interview process, with five different stages involving various stakeholders. There were significant delays between each stage, which might be tricky if you're interviewing elsewhere or have a full-time job. For me, it took about 6 weeks. Initially, I was really impressed with my talent partner; she gave me a good vibe about the company and kept me updated. However, my talent partner switched halfway through, which seemed to happen when my chances for the role might have decreased. I was left in limbo for two weeks after the final interview without any follow-up. I figured I didn't get the job due to the lack of communication, and I had to chase the talent partner for a response in the end. That left a bad impression. For a role like this, there probably aren't more than a few candidates at the end, and it's basic courtesy to follow up with everyone. Because of this, I wouldn't apply to GoCardless again.

SRE Manager
It was a 5-hour interview, with each hour dedicated to a different topic: management skills, software development (specifically making an API client), a Q&A session on SRE topics, fixing a broken Linux VM, and a discussion on values. The interview ran from 11 AM to 4 PM with absolutely no breaks or food. It was so bad that even going to the bathroom was difficult - I had to run out, have someone wait outside, and then rush back for more questions. The internal recruiter mentioned that scheduling made breaks impossible. My take is they just didn't consider breaks. The interviewers were pretty good, but I was a mess by the end. Honestly, there was nothing compelling about GoCardless as a place to work. The whole experience gave off a vibe of constant crunch, making me wonder how staff are treated if this is how they treat candidates. I left exhausted and completely uninterested in the job.
