First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GoCardless.
Account Executive
The interview process had 3 stages, it was pretty simple and straightforward. First, there was a screen with the recruiter, then I met with managers and the VP. After that, I did a role play of a discovery call with two managers. They gave me an offer very shortly after this. Everyone was really nice the whole way through.
- Can you describe your operating rhythm?
- What are some example pain points you've dealt with?
- How do you approach competition?
Account Executive
The whole process took about 2 weeks. It started with two phone calls, one with HR and another with the hiring manager. The hiring manager's interview raised some red flags with comments about firing underperformers and some unclear product details, which was odd since he just joined the company. Then there were two face-to-face interviews on the same day. The first was supposed to be a personality fit with two SDRs, but it felt like a joke because they were reading from laptops and asking generic questions. It felt like a training session for them, and they weren't even people I'd work with daily. This interview ran long, cutting into my time with the next interviewer. The second face-to-face was with the hiring manager again. He said he'd go easy, which seemed strange for a senior role. This interview confirmed my doubts; the manager lacked a clear plan for the team, contradicted himself about strategic goals, and again read from a laptop. Most importantly, it wasn't clear if the company would support learning or success. I declined to move forward after this, despite being invited to the next stage. My feedback was dismissed arrogantly.
- Can you share the most recent sales book you've read?
- Besides your track record of meeting targets, what other actions could you have taken to achieve them?
Account Executive
First, you'll chat with the recruiter for a prescreen. If they feel you're a good fit, you'll then talk with a sales manager. If that goes well, you'll get a task, which is usually a sales presentation. They're really big on MEDDIC, so make sure your presentation reflects that methodology. You might also meet with other team members, but that usually doesn't impact the decision much.
- Can you share a time when you encountered a challenge?
- Tell me about a situation where you faced difficulty.
- Describe an instance where you struggled with something.
