Product Manager
it was a pretty standard process, started with a phone screen, then an interview with the hiring manager, followed by a technical interview, and then a few more interviews. The later interviews had some basic technical questions, but they were mostly behavioral and situational questions. Each interview was about 45 minutes long and the questions were pretty common ones.
- Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
Product Manager
I had an initial phone screening with an internal recruiter. Then, I had a 30-minute phone call with the director of product. After that, they sent me an assessment via email. Both interactions were really nice, and they asked some straightforward questions. The director specifically asked more personal questions based on the experience I described. Although another applicant was ahead of me and got the role, they mentioned they really enjoyed our interactions and would like to reach out in the future, which was a nice personalized touch.
- Do you have any experience with WordPress?
- Can you demonstrate how you would write a bug ticket?
- How would you reply to this email?
Product Manager
This was honestly the weirdest phone-screen interview I've had in a long time, especially considering I've talked to over 20 people in the last two months. The interviewer was late and just seemed really irritated and standoffish the whole time. They started off with this sarcastic comment like, 'if what you were doing was so great, why are you here talking to us?' Then, they wouldn't tell me anything about the role and instead basically demanded I tell them what I wanted the role to be first, which felt super weird and confrontational right away. I tried to give them a general idea of my background, but they still wouldn't share any details about the position, so it was just this awkward silence about what I was even applying for. They also insisted on knowing the lowest salary I'd accept. When I told them a number that was actually within the Glassdoor range, they said it was way too high and that I wasn't qualified because of my lack of experience, which makes no sense since they interviewed me. Then they asked if I'd take less. I ended up withdrawing my application after the call, but honestly, it's unlikely they would have moved me forward anyway given how strange the whole conversation was.
- What are your desires?
- What do you envision this role to be?
- What is the minimum compensation you would be willing to accept?
