First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GMO.
Software Developer
The interview had 3 rounds: a technical round, a behavioral round, and an interview with the CEO. The technical round focused on resume screening. There was also an HR interview and the CEO interview. They wanted to gauge your interest in working at their company.
- What are your technical strengths?
- How do you see yourself contributing to the organization?
Software Engineer
It started with a phone interview where the interviewer was sharp and asked about OOP concepts and algorithms. Then I went in person to meet the team. The first interview involved 5 people. They tested my C# knowledge conceptually, had me read and write code, and gave me a math exercise and a brain teaser. I passed that. The second round was meeting upper management. It felt like intelligence decreased with rank in that financial company. Looking back, I should've left when they asked me to 'prove that you can deliver.' I wanted to argue that a proof is irrefutable and I could only talk about past projects, not truly prove it without a test project, which is still not absolute proof, similar to proving you're a good manager. But I didn't say that. They were looking for a contractor, and I wanted full-time, so it didn't work out.
- Could you read this code and tell me what it does?
- Can you write some code to reverse a string?
- What's the distinction between an interface and an abstract class?
Software Engineer
The interview focused heavily on my projects and past experience. There were two technical interviews where the questions weren't too hard. I was asked to go through a coding problem and talk about various testing situations.
- Were there any unexpected questions?
- Were some process-related questions thought-provoking?
