Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GM Financial.
Economist
The interview had 3 stages: first, a quick call with HR to go over the job and the interview steps. HR was really nice and helpful, and basically, if you know SAS and are okay with hybrid work in Fort Worth, you're likely good. Second, a SAS and skills test. The SAS part is easy, and the skills assessment is an untimed SHL quantitative reasoning test. If you pass this, they'll schedule the main interview pretty fast. Third, a presentation and interview with VPs over MS Teams. You'll present a past econometric or data analysis project, talk through your choices, and then have a behavioral interview. For your project, try to pick something with insights that could actually be used.

Financial Analyst
It was a 4-hour interview process with 6 different interviews. The questions were specific to the role and focused on Excel skills. Since it was a senior role, they also checked my industry knowledge.
- Can you share some behavioral examples?
- What do you know about this industry?
- Tell me about your technical skills.
Economist
I applied online and also had a friend refer me internally to HR. Within a few days, HR reached out to set up a phone screening. It wasn't my best day for the screening, and I knew I'd messed up soon after we hung up. My advice: when explaining your expertise, speak slowly so the recruiter can type it all down; if you go too fast, they might miss some details. Good luck!
- Tell me about your proficiency in Statistics.
- How proficient are you with SAS?
- What's your experience with SAS proc?
