Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

I first had a screening phone call with HR to go over the basics. Then, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager where we talked more about my background, and my knowledge of mobile and F2P games. After that, I went in for a 5-hour in-person interview. This included a case study presentation to a group of product managers and producers. After the presentation, I had several one-on-one interviews, each lasting about 45 minutes to an hour, with people from the panel. The case study was the most intensive part, requiring a lot of prep beforehand. It involved analyzing a mobile game and coming up with ideas to make it better. During the presentation, I had to discuss and justify my thoughts on the game's pros and cons, and give some estimates on how well certain features would do. The one-on-ones were pretty standard. Since the role was for live events/operations, a lot of the questions were about creating events for Glu games, and I had to adapt my suggestions when they threw new info at me.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • No single question was extremely difficult, but you need a solid grasp of F2P monetization.
  • The case study will need several hours of preparation.
  • You'll be asked about your assumptions and assertions and need to be ready to back them up.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online. After a week with no response, I reached out to their recruiter. He got back to me a few days later and scheduled a 1:1 phone interview with the hiring manager for the next week. It was mostly an execution interview. Light on prioritization and communication/behavioral questions. One or two questions about game economy and monetization design. No specific questions about the product. Throughout the interview, it seemed to me that the hiring manager was asking rote questions and was looking for specific sorts of answers. At the same time, he seemed unsure what I would be doing in this role. These are red flags to me. Anyhow, I highly recommend to applicants at this stage to rehearse something staid. You probably won't get any points for authenticity or original thinking. Go for a safe answer. UPDATE: After three weeks, they finally got back to me. Seems they changed the role and went with someone else.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • What would you do if DAU is holding steady but revenue is decreasing in one of your games?
  • Can you discuss game economy and monetization design?

Technical Behavioral Other

I had a phone screen, then a second phone interview with the hiring manager, and finally an onsite with 8 people. The onsite was split into 4 rounds, with two people interviewing me in each. One of the rounds was an on-the-spot Microsoft Excel challenge. The whole process was pretty standard. Most of the questions were about my background and whether I'd be a good culture fit, which they really care about. It helps if you're into stuff like sports, or whatever else they're into. The only part I didn't like was the Excel challenge. They give you a laptop with some data and questions, and you have to answer them while they just watch you in silence. I thought I was doing okay until I realized the data didn't make any sense because the numbers were randomly generated, so there were no clear patterns. I mentioned this to them, and they said it was on purpose so it wouldn't make sense. I really didn't like that unrealistic setup, but maybe they were looking for something specific. Other than that, I really enjoyed talking to everyone.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Be sure you are well-prepared for the Excel test.
