First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gilly Hicks.
Model
The process was a bit unusual. I ended up sitting on the floor at the back of the shop. It was quite strange. They didn't really ask many questions. It felt like it was more about appearance than if I was suitable for the job. I did like the interviewer though.
- What is your availability in terms of days you can work?
Overnight Associate
I showed up a few minutes early for my interview. There were two other girls interviewing for the model position with me. A manager and lead brought us to the front of the store. It was pretty laid back, and they were nice. I wore a bodysuit with shorts and a button-up over it, and the other girls wore jeans, plain shirts, and yoga pants. They asked me different questions than the other two. The whole thing took about 20 minutes, and they said they'd let us know within a week. It's only been a day, so I'm hoping they call me back, especially since not many people are applying for this job.
- Can you explain what diversity means to you and why it matters in a work environment?
- Tell me about a time you had difficulty getting along with a colleague.
- What sets Gilly Hicks apart from other brands?
Team Impact Member
We had a group interview where I was with other candidates and a supervisor. The supervisor first explained about the company. Then, they interviewed us in smaller groups, each having about 3-4 people. They asked if we were interested in the 'model' position, which involves cashiering, greeting, and on-the-floor duties, or the 'impact team member' position, which is working in the back with stock room maintenance and folding clothes. However, the 'model' position has specific appearance requirements.
- Could you define diversity and explain its benefits in a professional setting?
Manager
I had a 1 on 1 interview with the district manager. It was easy going and they asked professional questions. The main reason I believe I got the job was because they found me attractive and asked me to come in for an interview. I really think it was just because I had a college degree and they liked how I looked. While I am an intelligent person and gave good answers, I know for a fact that didn't matter.
- Can you tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation?
- How do you incorporate teamwork into your everyday activities?
