It was a frustrating experience. After completing a detailed questionnaire, I was told my salary expectations were too high, at 61k GBP, which they stated was their max for a 'head of' position. This seems laughable for the UK market, as my expectations were in line with market rates. It felt like a waste of time, and I wish they had been more transparent earlier. Based on my experience and other reviews, the company seems to pay significantly below industry standards, which can make candidates feel unreasonable even when they are aligned with the market.

It was a straightforward and easy process. The HR representative walked me through the steps involved, what to expect, gave me information about the company, and its benefits. They also immediately let me know if there would be any tasks and the estimated duration of the entire process. I appreciated the company overview; it really gave me a sense of the company culture and whether it felt like a place I'd want to work.

The first interview was with a recruiter who really pushed me to lower my salary expectations. The offered salary was below market rate (around 45k) when the average for a senior dev is about 55k. I also asked about visa support, but the answer was vague. The second interview involved a pretty outdated and simple technical test. They rejected me with a generic message (likely due to salary) because it took them over a week and a half to review a very basic technical test. When I asked for specific feedback, they didn't respond.

The interview process at GiG was really smooth and professional, felt very engaging. The talent team kept me in the loop from the start, letting me know what to expect, which was super helpful in calming my nerves. The interviews were tough but also friendly, with a good mix of technical and behavioral stuff. The interviewers seemed genuinely interested in learning about me, my skills, and how I'd fit with the company vibe. It felt more like a good chat than a stiff interview, and I really liked how open they were about everything.
