Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Geotab.
Data Scientist
First, there was an HR prescreening call that lasted about 20 minutes. After a week, I had my second round with the Hiring Manager, which was a 45-minute interview focusing on my resume and projects. They asked normal questions, and the interviewers were nice. The whole process was smooth, and no difficult questions were asked.
- Can you share some information about your background?
- What makes you interested in this specific role?
- Could you describe some of the projects you've worked on?
Data Scientist
I interviewed with Geotab for a Data Scientist role in Dec 2021. It was three rounds. First, an HR screening plus technical questions (30 mins) covering work eligibility and compensation, plus basic Python and SQL. Second, a technical interview with a panel of data scientists (45 mins) focusing on my resume projects and past experience. Third, a live coding session where I had 1.5 hours to solve 4 problems (2 Python, 2 SQL) while being monitored but not pair programming. I could use resources and the internet, as long as I didn't copy-paste directly from Stack Overflow. They were very accommodating, scheduling all three interviews within two days due to my travel plans and providing a decision by Tuesday. Overall, it was an amazing experience.
- Can you explain the difference between UNION and UNION ALL in SQL?
Data Scientist Intern
The interview process was super quick, happening all within about a week. It kicked off with an HR interview that covered both behavioral stuff and some oral technical questions. Then there was an online quiz, which was also behavioral. After that, I had to do a proctored coding assessment. Finally, I interviewed with the actual data team.
- Python questions (oral)
- Python questions (programming)
- SQL questions (oral)
