First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Genworth.
IT Systems Analyst
I went through 5 rounds of interviews. First, I had a phone screen with the recruiting manager, then a phone interview with the hiring manager, and another phone interview with the director. After that, I had back-to-back in-person interviews with 6 people I would be working with, including directors, developers, project managers, and business users. The interview process was really smooth, and the internal recruiter was great with communication. It's a very professional organization with talented people and leaders. The whole thing took a bit longer than I expected, but I think it was because of the holidays.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to deal with a difficult stakeholder?
IT Analyst
I had a full day of interviews with eight different people. They asked me questions ranging from basic PL/SQL to Project Management and code standardization techniques.
- Given 100 pages of legacy code, what's missing and how would you manage improvements and changes?
- Could you explain the FTP Exit command and the difference between an Oracle function and a stored procedure?
Technology Analyst
The process was a little over 2 months from application to my first day. The recruiter expedited the process at every step and was knowledgeable , straightforward and helpful in preparing you for the next step. Lines of communication were kept open and the recruiter left a strong positive impression on me with how flawlessly he moved things along. It felt like we were working together to get things done and move the process along. I applied online and the executive recruiter reached out 2 weeks afterwards. I had: 1. A screening call with the recruiter. 2. A timed video interview with about 8 questions (2 attempts each). 3. A 30 minute call with HR rep which is really helpful in learning about the company, culture and future. 4. A ~45 minute interview with team lead i would work closely with 5. A ~45 minute interview with technical lead 6. A 1 hour interview with hiring manager All video face to face calls were scheduled on the same day which really helped move things along. All questions were situational to get a better understanding of how you resolve conflicts, work with teams, and deal with priorities. Some questions were canned but they were all relevant to the position. All interviews were more conversational, with no nonsensical, gotcha, puzzle questions. A little over a week after interviewing, i got the offer and kicked off the background check/drug test which took a little over a week to clear. I started the week after.
- How do you manage shifting priorities when you have little supervision?
- Describe a situation where you had a disagreement with a stakeholder and explain how you resolved it.
