First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at General Mills.
Financial Analyst
Started with an HR recruiter video screening interview. Then had a phone call with the hiring manager interview. After that, went through a behavioral based interview questions with four different people (STAR format). Finally, completed personality and deductive reasoning tests.
- Can you tell me your motivations for wanting to join General Mills?
- What specifically interests you about this particular role?
- What is prompting your job search and desire to leave your current position?
Financial Analyst
It was a 3 step process. First a phone chat with a Financial Analyst to cover basic behavioral stuff and one hypothetical finance question. Next, I had a Skype call with the Finance Manager where we went over basic behavioral questions and another hypothetical finance question. Lastly, I was flown in for an in-person interview. The night before, I had dinner with a Senior Financial Analyst and a Financial Analyst. The next morning, I had breakfast with some finance people, then there were 3 rounds of interviews which included basic behavioral and a couple of hypothetical finance questions. After that, I had lunch with finance members and a tour of the place. There were also some assessments to complete before the interview. My advice is to brush up on your behavioral questions and basic finance questions. Everyone was really relaxed and friendly.
- Tell me about your understanding of COGS, input costs, and Valuations (Discounted CF, NPV, IRR, WACC).
- How do non-financial factors play a role in decisions like closing down factories or taking on new projects?
Financial Analyst
I interviewed with two people, a Finance Manager and a Senior Finance Manager. It started off pretty chill with the first manager, just chatting about the workplace and their own career path. They also went over the corporate culture. Then, they asked about 5 questions, like typical situational and behavioral ones. After that, they left and the senior finance manager came in and asked me the same questions.
- Can you tell me about a challenge you faced and how you dealt with it?
- As CEO, what steps would you implement to boost sales and profitability?
- Describe a situation where you had to communicate with various stakeholders with diverse skill sets and varying levels of financial understanding.
