First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at General Mills.
Assistant Brand Manager
I applied through my university's career services. Career services posted the first round shortlist and set up an interview. This interview was on campus with someone from the brand management team at General Mills. It was mostly behavioral questions, but then there was a short case about a product, which is why I rated it difficult since I wasn't expecting it. If they had mentioned the case, I would have said it was average difficulty. If you pass this round, you go to a full day at the General Mills office for more interviews and critical thinking tests, similar to what's described in the US post for a comparable role.
- Can you introduce yourself and give me an overview of your resume?
- Tell me about yourself and walk me through your resume.
Brand Manager
I had a phone screening with a really kind HR intern, and then I was invited to the headquarters for two interviews, one with an HR manager and another with the hiring manager. The HR manager was late, but the interview was easy. The hiring manager, however, gave me only 5 minutes to convince her to hire me. I presented myself and my experiences, but she ended the interview quickly, saying I wasn't what she needed. I realized neither the job nor the company was a good fit for me, but the experience was quite negative due to the lack of respect and preparation from the interviewer.
- Can you tell me about yourself within a 5-minute timeframe?
Brand Manager
Really disappointing experience from a global company like General Mills. While the interview itself was okay, the follow up was deplorable. Weeks with no contact and then an automated rejection email - sent from a generic email address. This is despite the interview lasting more than an hour and being very detailed. Left a very bad taste in the mouth. Would not recommend anyone to bother in future - if this is the interview process, the company must be equally disappointing to work for.
- Extremely detailed questions regarding past experience and case studies were asked, which is unusual and not really expected at a first-round interview.
