Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at General Dynamics Land Systems.
Software Developer
The interview had two parts: behavioral and technical. For the behavioral part, we talked about my work history, future career goals, why I want to work at GDLS, and what I consider my biggest accomplishment. Then, in the technical part, I had to talk about my past experiences again, explain what version control is, describe how I'd deal with a merge conflict, look at a power control module I hadn't seen before and figure out how to install it, and draw a flowchart showing how a phone call works.
- Can you draw a flowchart that shows how a phone call is made?
Software Engineer
I was in a room with an interviewer, a software engineer, and my potential mentor who was on Zoom from Michigan. We had a conversation where I introduced myself and they asked me some questions. They were really nice and understanding.
- What would you do if you were placed in an existing team and how would you offer your suggestions without disrupting the team's work?
- Have you worked with any specific operating systems before?
- Tell me about a project that you're proud of.
Software Engineer Intern
There were 2 rounds of interviews. I had to do a coding assignment, but the setup was really weird and used outdated technology. It felt like they weren't using current tech.
- Can you tell me about a time you recently took on a leadership role?
