AVOID!!! First round was a technical interview, really tough if your basics aren't solid. They asked some easy/medium LeetCode problems focused on arrays/strings. Second round was another technical interview. The interviewer didn't even introduce themselves and was extremely rude. They asked for practical implementation, like demonstrating the singleton pattern live in VS. Also asked practical questions on joins and writing SQL queries. Even after getting all but one or two answers correct, I was ghosted with no rejection email or any communication. Both interviewers seemed frustrated and lacked enthusiasm. The culture seems like a major red flag.

I applied for the role online through LinkedIn. The hiring manager reached out to me on LinkedIn to schedule our initial phone conversation. It was a really good call, we discussed the role, the company, and my background. The call was supposed to be 30 minutes but went closer to an hour. At the end, the hiring manager outlined the next steps and mentioned HR would contact me. After the call, I emailed the hiring manager to thank her and provide more detail on a few things we discussed. Unfortunately, I never heard back from her or the company. I sent two more follow-up emails over the next few weeks, but I never got a response from the hiring manager or anyone in HR.

The CEO's assistant reached out after reviewing my resume and seeing it was a good match. I then set up an interview and was hired right after my first meeting with the CEO. When I arrived, everyone was super welcoming, which isn't usually my experience with interviews. Typically, office staff don't even acknowledge you when you walk in, but at Genea, two people greeted me and made sure I was all set.

The actual job responsibilities and compensation were very different from what they had posted on their Craigslist ad. They will make you come in multiple times and the CEO is going to ask all kinds of personal questions that have nothing to do with the position, I guess for the reason of "getting to know you," but in reality those questions and the CEO's cocky attitude will only make you feel extremely vulnerable and insecure, instead of feeling comfortable during the interview. And in the end they didn't even had the courtesy to tell me that I didn't get the job. So much for professionalism! One of the worst interviews I've ever had, a total waste of time and energy.
