First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gemini.
Quality Assurance Engineer
Started with a recruiter call to make sure we were on the same page, company-wise and personally. Then a take-home test where I had to automate a login form. I could use any language, but Python seemed to be the team's go-to. After that, two full days of interviews. The first day had two 1-hour technical interviews. The first one focused on how to improve my take-home test, SQL, automation strategies, and a coding question involving manipulating a common data structure. The second one gave me intentionally vague requirements for a food delivery app, and I had to work with the interviewer to nail down the details and show I understood the whole picture and the little things. The second day also had two 1-hour interviews, but these were more about behavior and culture fit, checking our soft skills.
- How might you enhance the take-home assignment you completed?
- Given two lists, create a program that identifies and returns their common elements.
- Execute a series of approximately 10 SQL operations involving one or more tables.
Quality Assurance Engineer
I was put forward for an interview at Gemini by some agency recruiters, who were pretty professional, but the Gemini employee I dealt with was not. He set up two phone interviews and then missed both. I gave him a pass on the first one because he said a personal crisis prevented him from emailing me until late. But for the second one, he said a meeting ran long. It seems kind of messed up that if a meeting makes an HR person late, they don't even take a second to email the person they're stood up. I did get another message from him, but it was to try and schedule a third time when I already told him I wasn't free.
- The interviewer never actually asked me any questions, so I can't say what they would have been.
QA Engineer
So I had one short phone call with the company, lasted about 15 minutes. They didn't ask me any technical questions. Instead, they asked me what I was looking for in my next job. Then, the following week, I got an email saying they decided not to move forward. The email said something like, "While impressed with your experience, we have decided not to move forward with your candidacy at this time. OUR TEAM IS FORTUNATE ENOUGH to receive applications from candidates who met their preferred qualifications for this particular position." I didn't think that was super professional.
- Can you give an example of a bug you discovered?
