First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gelber Group.
Trader
I had a few phone calls with some of the traders. They were all super nice guys. Everything was decent until my final on-site interview where I met Brian Gelber, the ceo. He asked me a myriad of inappropriate questions, like "So you’re a woman!? I don’t get a lot of women who apply here." He then asks me questions like "do you prefer reading books by men or women more? I can usually tell when a book is written by a woman" then he asked me if my parents are still alive, and if they are, what they do for a living. My dad died when I was young so I got upset. He’s a piece of work, awful person. Very negative look for the company image.
- Do you prefer to read books written by men or women more?
Trader
This role is very factual, focusing on your track record. They want to see if you're like other traders, and originality isn't really valued. Mostly looking for experienced traders, but they do recruit from a handful of schools for juniors. Experienced risk-taking is essential. They need traders who can produce results from day one.
- What is your trading strategy?
Trader
First, I chatted with a recruiter over the phone. They seemed genuinely invested in finding a good fit for a trader role. Then, I had two more interviews with different traders, followed by a final interview with the CEO. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and passionate about trading. It was a pretty straightforward interview process, mainly focusing on cultural fit and my motivation for pursuing a career in trading.

- What makes you want to be in trading?
