The interview process started with a couple of phone interviews with a team member and the manager. Following that, I was invited for an all-day on-site interview. They covered my travel to Albany airport. The day began with breakfast with a team member, then a 1-hour technical presentation to about 10 people on a topic of my choice. After the presentation, there were two 1-hour technical interviews where the interviewers asked questions related to my presentation as well as general mechanical engineering topics like structural design and manufacturing. We had lunch, during which I met with two other managers to discuss their work and work-life balance. The afternoon included a meeting with HR for standard STAR questions, a meeting with a Principal Engineer, and a meeting with the Technology Leader. The day concluded with a final discussion with my potential manager.

I applied online, and a few days later the hiring manager emailed me about a 5-minute phone interview. It went okay, but I didn't really feel like it was a good fit. The hiring manager mentioned one of his engineers would contact me for a more in-depth interview. No engineer contacted me, so I emailed the hiring manager. He said I'd be contacted the next day. This happened three times, and I still haven't had an interview with an engineer.

Got a call from the hiring manager after the phone interview, they offered to cover travel, hotel, and food for an onsite interview. I went and had breakfast with the hiring manager at the hotel, then they drove me to the facility. I gave a 1-hour presentation on my work with a Q&A afterward with future colleagues. This was followed by a 2-hour technical interview with 3 experts, mostly technical questions in a behavioral format. The last 10% of the technical interview was non-technical questions and my questions for them. Then, some employees took me to lunch and asked me various questions. After lunch, I met with an HR manager for 30 minutes, asking general behavioral questions. Finally, I had 2-3 30-minute one-on-one interviews with managers and project leaders, including the hiring manager's boss. They showed me around the research facilities and a GE business factory. Got a verbal offer within a week, then a written offer with a timeline.
