Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GE Research.
Intern
First there was a skill test online with verbal and quant aptitude questions. It was average difficulty but the time pressure made it competitive. The first round was mostly technical, related to my major, which was what they needed. They asked a lot of questions to check curiosity, interest, knowledge depth, and basic understanding for the internship. This technical discussion lasted 45 minutes. Then there was an HR round with typical questions like Why GE?, Prior Experience?, Short term & Long term goals? It lasted 30 minutes.
- Can you tell me about your previous internship experience?
- What solutions did you propose during your last internship?
Intern
I got an email about a job I didn't apply for, but they had my old resume. First, a phone interview where the supervisor talked about the job and asked about my interests and classes, no technical stuff. Then, I went to an on-site interview at the research center in Niskayuna, NY, needing ID for security. I met with my direct supervisor and his main subordinate. The supervisor was really into it and asked behavioral questions, like for examples of resourcefulness and how my background fit. The whole thing took about 1-1.5 hours, was really chill and actually fun. No technical questions because the EHS intern job isn't technical. GE-GRC seems to have good managers who make interviews easy.
- Tell me about times you showed certain skills, like resourcefulness or innovation.
- How did you approach problem solving or critical thinking?
- Describe a conflict within an organization or team and its outcome.
Intern
An online test was conducted, and 7 out of 35 students who took it were selected for a Technical Personal Interview. Following this, 3 students moved on to an HR PI, with 2 of them ultimately securing the internship.
- Can you tell me about your most recent internship experience?
- What area are you interested in working in at GE?
