I actually had to get an employee to call the CIO to complain that I had applied for several positions with their recommendation and had not been contacted. Once that happened, I finally had a phone interview with HR. Then, I met with the hiring manager and two others in the department in person, one by one. It was not a panel interview. Overall, the experience was very positive.

I first networked with a junior associate at GE, who gave me the inside scoop on daily tasks, the work environment, and what to expect in interviews. Then, I had individual 30-minute meetings with five senior managers (AVP, VP, SVP, MD). Some interviews focused on my background and past experiences, while others tested my knowledge of the company, industry, and specific job duties. I made a mistake with one question, and my answer was interpreted the opposite of what I meant. I followed up with the SVP I'd be working for, and they appreciated my effort to clarify and invited me for a second round to give me a chance to redeem myself. They valued my initiative and offered me the job about two months after I applied. The interviews were comfortable and relaxed. My background and MBA studies really interested them. GE's culture is different from big investment banks; they invest in training everyone and foster a team-based environment with seemingly endless possibilities.

So there were 10 rounds in total, and the first 3 were the really important ones. These involved technical and scenario-based questions. The very first round was an hour-long meeting with the hiring manager, followed by two more technical rounds. After you passed those, the rest of the interviews were just 30 minutes each and pretty much a formality.
