First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GCM Grosvenor.
Research Analyst
The interview process involved 2 rounds. Each round consisted of two 30-minute interviews back-to-back, one focused on behavioral aspects and the other on technical skills. In the first round, candidates met with analysts and associates. The second round involved meeting with more senior staff. Questions covered hedge fund research and evaluation, as well as past experiences.
- Can you explain your methodology for evaluating a hedge fund?
Credit Associate
The interview process involved multiple stages over two months. It started with two rounds of behavioral interviews, followed by a take-home case study that had a one-week deadline and was quite open-ended. After the case study, there were three more behavioral interviews. Throughout the process, questions focused on previous experience, with some assessing understanding of the current market. Even after completing all interviews and the case study, the role wasn't guaranteed. Ultimately, despite reaching the final stage, there was no communication regarding feedback or the decision to pursue other candidates.
- Can you explain what a spread is, and what their current levels are?
- What are the present opportunities within the credit market?
- How do you define a spread? What are current spreads? What is the current opportunity set in credit?
Summer Analyst
I interviewed with the whole team. We went over resume questions, M&I 400 valuation, LBOs, and accounting. They also gave me an LBO case study. I had to watch out for management fees and a mistake on the feeder tab where cogs needed to be changed to match other boxes.
- What valuation methods do you know?
- Tell me about accounting.
- Why did you choose Grosvenor?
Controller
I applied online and had two 30 minute video interviews after the phone screen. It was your standard interview without any out there questions. I didn’t get the impression they have a particularly good culture, which is their current reputation, but so much varies by department and team. Moreover, the actual job description and title were really different, so I had their HR confirm it was in fact a manager position. It was fun to find out at the end of the second interview that it was in fact not. They ghosted me after the interview, which when you’re mid-career is pretty unprofessional.
- Can you tell me about your greatest strength?
- What would you consider your greatest weakness?
