First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GAVI ALLIANCE.
Manager
GAVI's interview process is quite lengthy and demanding, involving numerous stages that require significant effort from candidates. They offer minimal information to help assess if the company is a good fit. The initial step is a video interview, which feels awkward since you're talking to a camera without anyone present. Next, there's a comprehensive written assessment with several parts. The final stage is a panel interview where they probed deeply into my experience and skills, yet provided little detail about the role, benefits, or the company itself. The process was also marked by disorganization, with delays and rescheduled appointments throughout.
- Can you describe a time you managed a conflict of interest?
- Outline your approach to planning an event.
Senior Manager
Submitted my application, then had a computerized video interview, followed by a panel interview, and then a final round of six individual 1:1 interviews. The whole thing took about six months from start to finish before getting an offer. Application was just a standard cover letter and CV. The video interview was with the SONRU system - it's a timed one way video interview where you get questions and have a few minutes to prep and then a few minutes to record your answer. The questions were pretty basic and straightforward. The panel interview had the hiring manager, an HR rep, and another team member, and it was about situational competence. For the panel interview, they used the competency-based interview technique, asking questions that required me to recall a specific time or example that demonstrated the competency they were looking for based on my past experience. You'd give a brief context, focus most of the time on your actions, and then explain the outcome. The 1:1 interviews were more back-and-forth and let me ask a lot of my own questions about the role, team, and strategy.
- What's motivating you to apply for this position? What difficulties might you run into if you got the job? How would you deal with them? Why Gavi over another company or the private sector?
- What is your motivation for applying for the role? What challenges might you encounter if your were successful in being recruited? How would you handle them? Why do you see yourself at Gavi as opposed to another organization or private sector?
Risk Management
The interview process involved three main parts, with a couple of weeks between each. First, there was an online recorded video interview to check if you could talk through answers clearly. Then, a written assessment to gauge your technical skills. Finally, a virtual panel interview that covered both competency-based scenarios and other types of questions.
