Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Garmin.
IT Intern
The interview was very direct and they asked a lot about my personal and educational background. It went smoothly and the interviewer was very nice and understanding. I learned a lot from him and he gave me advice.
- Can you explain your knowledge of IT?
Internship
The interview process started with a phone screen and then moved to a virtual interview. During the phone screen, the HR person seemed unprepared and couldn't answer basic questions about the role, like which department it belonged to. Both interviews felt uninspired, as the employees seemed to be just going through the motions without any real passion for their work, indicated by their monotone voices and expressions. My overall feeling was that the employees were there for the good pay and benefits, rather than genuinely enjoying the work itself.
- Given one month for this assignment, what would be your approach to completing it?
Intern
2 days ago I had a technical interview where they asked about oop and databases. For Java, I got basic questions like override vs overload. An HR person also asked me about my personal projects, hobbies, and passions to get to know me better.
- Can you explain the difference between overriding and overloading functions in Java?
- What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface in Java?
- How would you model an m-n relationship in a database?
