First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gap International.
Consultant
This interview process felt very impersonal. I was initially presented with many positive expectations, but then experienced a complete lack of follow-up. The first interaction was a brief 15-minute session where I was only given information about the company; I didn't get to speak. The subsequent round involved questions about my personal background, which is standard for interviews. More details about the role were provided, and in the next interview, I had the opportunity to ask questions about the position itself. Everything seemed promising until communication ceased entirely. This also happened to a friend of mine. I would advise against investing your time here.
- Can you discuss your educational and professional background?
Consultant
The interview process had 4 rounds spanning 6 weeks. I got through 3 rounds, but then had to wait 3 weeks for them to schedule my next interview. I told the hiring manager/HR I had other job offers and a deadline, but they left me hanging for 3 weeks with no communication or updates - it was extremely unorganized. The company coaches leaders of organizations to establish a new culture in their firm, like a coaching position. All senior consultants I spoke with had been there 15 - 25 years.
- Can you share some personal details about your family?
- How frequently do you get to see your family?
- Tell me about the place where you grew up.

The hiring process at Gap is really thorough and matches their company vibe. They pretty much want everyone at the VP level or higher to interview you to see if you're a good fit. It kicks off with a quick chat with a consultant to make sure you're not awful. Then, you talk to a VP who explains the business model and digs into what you're really looking for. If those chats go well, they'll invite you to the office for in-person interviews with up to 8 different people. You'll get a tour of the nice building and meet with various Directors and VPs for about 30-60 minutes each. You'll also do an "asset assessment" with one of their linguists. The discussions are less about your past work or skills and more about your personality and who you are. They want to know why you're passionate about Gap and that you'll stick around for over 10 years, like everyone else there. It's a good process overall, but it takes a while. From the first call to the end took more than 2 months.
- Tell me about why you enjoy consulting. And then, why do you enjoy that? What's the core reason behind it? How does that make you feel?
- Why do you like consulting?
- Why do you like that?
