Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GameStop.
Manager
The interview process involves speaking with two different managers after submitting your resume. There's no assessment to complete, so it's pretty straightforward. Make sure to apply through Workday for any positions you're interested in by checking the careers page.
- Can you walk me through your previous work experience?
Risk Manager
The interviewer was not skilled in HR. It is inappropriate to ask about salary. After I explained my reasons for leaving my previous job, she assumed it was for a significant pay increase. When I asked about the salary range, she claimed ignorance. This was unprofessional. She even mispronounced OSHA. The interview was quite awkward.
- What is your current salary?
Assistant Manager
The interview process involved two rounds: first an in-person meeting with the store manager, and then a second meeting with the district manager conducted over MS Teams. Key performance indicators for this role include the minimum percentage of pro memberships sold relative to total customers and the minimum percentage of warranties sold on physical disk games. The business model is facing challenges, and a reevaluation of strategies is needed to avoid obsolescence, similar to the Blockbuster vs. Netflix situation.
- Can you describe how you would encourage an employee to increase sales of pro memberships and warranties for physical games, considering the current market reluctance?
- What are your thoughts on motivating staff to sell pro memberships and warranties on physical disk games when customer interest is low?
- How would you approach motivating an employee to sell pro memberships and warranties on physical games that are not selling well?
