First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Games Workshop.
Account Manager
So after an initial reach out, I got a call for a language assessment, which was basically a sales simulation. They opened the call by saying they hadn't even looked at my resume, which was kinda weird. I told them I had no prior experience in sales, and they said it was fine. But after the simulation, they got really into critiquing my sales approach, talking to me like I was some seasoned pro instead of someone new, and then just said I wasn't moving forward. It felt like they didn't really consider me. I always liked this company, but this experience makes it hard to recommend.
- A sales simulation exercise focused on business-to-business interactions.
Account Manager
There were four rounds. Information was provided to prepare for each round, which was very time-consuming. First, there was a conversation with HR, then I had to take a language test (Danish in my case), followed by a phone call where we acted out possible customer situations. The final round was a video interview with two people, which again involved a role-play exercise. Each meeting lasted 1 hour (except for the language test).
- How do I get the customer to order new material even though they still have stock and limited storage space?
Account Manager
I'm rating this interview experience negatively because it didn't at all prepare me for the reality of working at GW. There was a two-hour phone interview followed by a two-hour in-person interview. They make you feel really welcome at first, but as soon as you start, you realize there's a huge turnover in the sales and accounts department, which they don't mention during the interview. So, if you're really interested in the job, you should either ask about turnover or decide not to ask, whatever feels right. I forgot to ask and I wish I had. Make sure you're well-prepared and genuinely want both the job and to be an employee of Games Workshop. They'll say they're just recruiting for the job, but I've never been with a company that emphasizes the "right employee" in terms of company culture so much (they act casual but are actually very exclusive).
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
- Could you demonstrate your sales skills with a mock sales scenario?
