First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Galileo Learning.

It was a general interview. It said there would be about 2-6 people, but it was only me and 2 others. We presented our lessons/games and moved on to interview questions. Everything was very straight forward. Just be sure to calm your nervousness and have fun.
- What would you do if you noticed a coworker seemed withdrawn?

The process was a bit of a drag for me because it is in 2 parts. The first part is a screening via Skype. The Skype interview is simple and only lasted for about 15-20 minutes. The second part of the process is where it gets a little daunting. The second part consists of an individual meeting with a camp director and a group activity portion that is supposed to mimic a day at camp. You're supposed to create a 3 minute lesson or activity to showcase your skills for the group portion, which, is actually a bit more difficult than you think it would be.
- What motivated you to apply to Galileo?

The interview process takes about 2 to 2.5 hours in downtown Oakland at night. It's a cattle call where everyone wears silly costumes like New Years hats and leis. They start by announcing they desperately need staff. Then there's a one-on-one interview, followed by a small group interview where you present a prepared lesson and create one together. They do this to get new ideas for the camp. Then there's more whole group stuff. They end by saying most of us won't get the job but to tell our friends. The rejection letter was insulting too, suggesting a babysitting website. I realized I was too old for this gig, especially being over 40. I'm over 50 and was the oldest there; everyone else was in their 20s and 30s. The only good thing was picking up a few ideas for my day job. I felt like the one-on-one and small group interviews were being recorded because they take up a good chunk of the building and they're interviewing so many people.
- Can you tell me about your experience in teaching?
