It was a pretty standard interview. They brought me in and asked me about my past jobs and how I'd deal with customers. We also chatted about when I can work. They explained the job to me too.

So, the interview had some basic questions, like asking about my strengths and weaknesses, and how I'd deal with busy or stressful times. They also had me take an online ethics quiz as part of the application. Then they interviewed me based on that quiz. It was a pretty straightforward process because it was a part-time retail job and I was a university student, so nothing too tough.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online and after a quick 15-minute phone interview, I was invited for an in-person interview the very next day. They were cool about me rescheduling it a bit. I dressed up a little with a nice shirt, tie, good jeans, and leather shoes and they liked that I put in effort without overdoing it. The Assistant Manager was really chill and helpful, then the General Manager came in and did a fast-paced interview about the department I'd be in charge of. It was tough but a good way to show what I can do. The place has a really positive vibe, everyone seemed happy.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

They only hire via online applications when they need to do a mass hiring. Otherwise they try to hire via referrals. I walked in, right up to the Department Sales Manager, had a few words with him about my interests and within 5 minutes he walked me over to the customer service desk and made photocopies of my sales awards and resume. He asked me if I could come in the next morning for my next interview. My first interview with the Department Sales Manger was the most mechanical and awkward as it included robotic questions such as "Have you ever been in situation A? If yes, what did you do to resolve it?". My second interview was with the Store Manager himself. His interview was comfortable - This is deliberate as he wants to have a normal conversation with you to get a good reading on who you actually are as a human being. This was extraordinarily refreshing. The process took ~14 days but would have been ~7 days quicker but I had just immigrated to Canada and all my references were U.S. phone numbers so it was difficult for them to make contact at the right time (3-4 hour time difference).

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Standard affair for interview questions. The 1st interview is to see how you handle yourself under pressure. The 2nd interview is a get-to-know-you session.

It's been 48 hours but no call back. Should I assume that they decided not to call me? Or perhaps it's just taking a bit longer to get back to me. I'm really excited about this job so any feedback towards my situation would be greatly appreciated!
