The interview process was long, odd, and somehow strangely adversarial and combative. I made it through four rounds of interviews that varied in length from 60 to 90 minutes. My primary interviewer was pleasant enough but a significant portion of the interview was centered around a personality assessment which felt odd. My final round of interviews was a panel interview that was also framed as a “deep dive” on my personal background, education history, and job history. The explicit instructions were to kind of fill in the parts of my life that were not present on my resume to give them a better feeling for who I was as a person presumably. This turned out to not be the case. They 100% just wanted me to recite my resume. Totally fair and I misread the room. What I found to be problematic, and the reason why I am writing this, is one of the interviewers was - in his words - “the worst.” I basically explained during the deep dive that I had a tendency when I was younger to assume everyone was a friend and treat them as such despite that not being the case. My quote was, I think, “I thought at the time that pretty much everyone I met was the best.” His response was immediate, “not me. Im the worst.” What? Later when I was explaining my work with various sales agents he interrupted me and said, “OH! I thought you were talking about Asians.” Again - what? After that interview, they waited almost two weeks to decline. As of posting, they still haven’t hired for that role and have an interim director overseeing ops. All in all a very odd experience.

First, there was a 30-minute phone chat with someone from corporate. Then, I had an in-person interview that lasted about 2 to 2.5 hours. During this time, I got to see the campus and then give a mock lesson for an hour. The next step was they asked for references, but I didn't make it past that point so I'm not sure what else was involved.

So first there was this phone call with the head of the department, and then after that I had a couple of in person meetings. One of them was like a sample lesson, and the other one was with the head of the school. We talked about how I would serve the students and how I'd fit into the school's culture.

First, there was a preliminary phone interview. Second, I had to prepare and give a mock lesson, complete several writing prompts, and provide a full list of references. This position doesn't require a Masters of Education and I get that they want to find dependable instructors, but their second round requirements are way more intensive than usual. It was obvious right away that they hadn't looked at my materials when I got there, and they kept mixing me up with other candidates during the interview.
