Since I wasn't in Washington, DC, they were super flexible with my schedule and okay with me doing a phone conversation. I really liked the FTC from the first call because their interview style suited me. They're friendly and professional without being too stuffy. I had a few interviews with different offices/bureaus until I found one that was a good match. Although it took two months to get the interview, once I did it, the process to get hired was quick and easy. Be patient and keep trying! The interview questions were pretty basic, but they're really good at figuring out who's not up to par. If you're not ready, they'll definitely notice, so practice your interviewing if you're feeling unsure.

The interview was unique since it took place in a conference room with the entire Litigation Support staff present. It felt like a performance in front of an audience rather than a typical interview. I was intimidated, but tried to appear confident. The setting was a normal business environment, but the pressure to perform was intense. It was hard to read everyone's reactions. Afterward, the manager was unreadable, making it unclear if I made a good impression. She just thanked me and ended the interview without saying if she'd follow up. Weeks later, she called to offer me the position, which I happily accepted, excited about the prospect of working for the Federal Government.

The interview process was pretty laid-back, with two junior attorneys. They mainly focused on my interest in The FTC, consumer protection, and related topics. I ended up leading much of the discussion with my own questions, so it's a good idea to have some solid questions ready. We also spent a good amount of time talking about the personal interests I listed on my resume.

Two directors from the bureau of economics interviewed me. It was pretty standard behavioral questions and they really wanted to know about my programming and econometrics background, but they didn't ask any technical questions. It was a really nice experience, the interviewers were nice, paid attention to details, and seemed really excited to have new people join the research and atmosphere at the FTC.
