Shift Supervisor
The workload is okay for the location, maybe it's my skills but the staff works efficiently. The benefits are mostly for others like friends and family. Having a small crew helps you get to know everyone, which forces you to build connections.
- Can you identify one skill that best represents you?
Server
I applied and got a call from the hiring manager a couple of days later. A few days after that, I went in for the interview on a quiet Thursday evening. I waited about 20 minutes in an empty part of the restaurant, but I didn't mind too much because I really needed a job. The manager eventually came and apologized for the wait. She asked basic questions and mentioned they don't hire servers without experience, so she offered me a position as a hostess or fountain worker instead, which I accepted. The interview covered my availability and ability to work with others. It felt like a successful interview, and she said she'd call me back Monday or Tuesday about orientation. No call came by Tuesday, so I waited a couple more days and called the following Thursday. The manager wasn't in, and no one knew when she'd be back. I finally reached her the next morning. She told me the job was filled but that they might hire in the future.
- How would you manage stressful situations?
- What's your availability like?
- Are there any issues you have with the company's uniform policy?
Manager
I applied online and got an email to schedule a phone interview with HR. That went well, so they scheduled me to interview with the area director. This involved a 100-mile round trip. The interview went well, and then I had a background check. After that, they scheduled an interview with the RVP, which was another 200-mile round trip. However, the interview was canceled the day before. They then scheduled a phone interview with the RVP, but they never called or canceled. It was the 4th of July weekend, so I couldn't reach HR until the following week. I was then told there was a reorganization and the position wasn't open anymore, and the RVP was reassigned. They scheduled an interview with the new RVP at a local store, so no traveling this time. But the day before, it was canceled again, unless I was willing to drive to Mass. the next morning (250 miles round trip), then she could see me. This company seems unorganized and doesn't respect prospective employees' time or money. It makes me wonder how they treat their employees. It might be a blessing in disguise. I've decided to move on and have interviews scheduled with competitors.
- The questions asked were not difficult.
- The interviews that they did manage to keep were professional.
Fountain Worker
While having dinner with my family, I bumped into a friend who worked as a server. I asked her about her job, and she said it was a good way to make some extra money. I mentioned I was interested, and within ten minutes, the general manager came over and introduced himself. We set up an interview for the next week.
- Were there any unexpected or difficult questions asked?
