Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Free People.
Manager
I interviewed for a position I was overqualified for and then never heard back. My recruiter and I emailed back and forth, and our conversation went well. She asked questions regarding my background, how I fit the brand, and why I wanted to work with Free People. What threw me off was that at the end of the 30+ minute interview, she mentioned the next step would be an interview with the district or regional manager and that other internal candidates were interested. The position was for Free People Movement, and I assume I wasn’t active enough or didn’t fit their niche. I got turned off because she said I’d have a second interview with someone else, and I haven’t heard a word back. Just felt like a waste of time overall.

Manager-In-Training
I and another candidate met with two managers at the Free People store. It seemed like they had forgotten about the interviews as the store was just opening and they were the only employees there. I was interviewing for the MIT position, and the other candidate was interviewing for a sales associate/stylist position, but we were asked the same questions. We sat in the store's lounge area, and while we were answering, the managers had to keep stopping to help customers. They said they'd get back to us, but I never heard from them.

- How would you deal with a customer who is being difficult?
- Tell me about your experience with leadership.
Assistant Manager
I interviewed outside of the store in the mall with the manager. She was really fun and down to earth and emulated the brand. It mainly felt like a conversation and not like an interview, mostly asking role play questions. My only complaint is I was denied the position via email which I think is rude.
