Applied online on June 21st. Got a call for an interview on June 30th. HR asked me some questions over the phone about customer service and how I've shown certain traits at work. A few days later, I went in for the actual interview. It was a super chill and friendly vibe. One person interviewed me, and another person just observed. They started with the easy stuff like my availability and what I expected for pay. Then, they hit me with some tougher questions: what's considered risky behavior, if I'm okay with taking risks, how I'd deal with a risky situation, and if it's acceptable for someone to get mad at work. Lots of behavioral questions to get a feel for who I am as a candidate. They said I'd hear back by the end of the week if I got the job. True to their word, I got a call the next day with a job offer. After that, I just had to go in for some paperwork and a drug test. Pretty standard stuff. It wasn't nerve-wracking at all; they're looking for confident and friendly people. If you make good eye contact and smile, you'll probably get hired.

I submitted my application online. About two weeks later, I got a call to come in for an interview. I was pretty hyped because I had two friends in the same situation (first job) who got hired without any issues. It turned out to be a group interview, and I was the only one who dressed up and brought a resume. The other two guys were around 40 and wearing jeans. We all had to pitch a product to the hiring manager, and I basically took charge of the whole thing. I thought I nailed the interview and showed I was really capable. But, two days later, I got that generic email saying I didn't get the job.
- Why do you think Fred Meyer should hire you?
- What areas do you think you need to work on?
Cashier
It was a very chill interview. I applied for a cashier job but the manager seemed to think I applied for a deli job and kept asking me about it, which I would have been fine with. The manager didn't seem to know how to interview and mostly read from a paper. I applied in April and didn't hear back until late June, by which time I had already forgotten about it. My friend referred me, but the manager didn't even know them, which was weird since my friend had worked there for almost a year. The other staff were really nice though, and the manager was a good person, but the interview was annoying because they seemed lost. It was an easy interview, but the wait to hear back was ridiculous.
- If you could be a candy, which one would it be?
- What does excellent customer service mean to you?
