Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Four Seasons.

The interview process was unethical. I had a job offer rescinded. The recruiter listed a start date earlier than we discussed (moved up by a month, starting 5 days after signing). The contract didn't include benefits mentioned in the job listing. The weekly hours in the offer letter differed from what the recruiter stated in person. I asked for clarification, stating my flexibility, and two days later received an email rescinding the offer. It seems the recruiter was unwilling to discuss the contract or a potential miscommunication. I suspect the way it was communicated to the culinary team reflected poorly on me, or they found someone else they preferred and used this as an excuse. It was unprofessional and the explanation didn't make sense. I have no insight into working there, but their handling of a candidate they'd offered a job to was rigid and dismissive.

Line Cook
I applied for a line cook position at one of the restaurants in the hotel. The interview process had 4 stages. First, I met with the chef at the restaurant I applied to, who wanted to understand my experience and knowledge in cooking. Second, I had an interview with HR, covering typical generic questions. Third, the General Manager of the hotel location was more personable than HR but still asked some repetitive questions, and went into more detail about my plans for moving to the island and finding housing and a car. Fourth, the final interview was with a manager who seemed to be assessing my personality. Right after, I was offered the job and told HR would be in touch.

After submitting my online application, I had an initial HR phone screen, followed by a 1-hour in-person interview with HR. Then, I interviewed with the Chef, after which I had a 5-hour bench test. The final step was an interview with the GM. I was very impressed with how courteous, friendly, intelligent, and graceful everyone was. They are very perspicacious at the Four Seasons, and treated me respectfully throughout the whole process. I had prepared beforehand by researching everything I could find online, from Glassdoor to YouTube, to learn about the culture and see if I'd be a good fit and happy there. Reading the menu online made me think it was a place where I could learn and contribute. Despite the competition in Boston, my in-person experiences and research confirmed this was where I wanted to be. My bench test performance wasn't great, but surprisingly, they offered me a full-time position with room for growth, and I couldn't be happier!
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations to assist a guest?
