Behavioral Technical

So I had a recruiter call first, and then she set up a 30 min interview with the Team Lead. He was 5 minutes late, but that was fine. He started by talking about the company, team, and role for like 20+ minutes. Then I only had like 3 minutes to answer one question, 'What are you looking for today?'. No technical questions. Later, the recruiter told me the lead thought I didn't have enough experience. This feedback was weird because I barely got to talk and he didn't ask about my experience. I asked HR for clearer feedback, and then the lead told me he hadn't read my resume before the interview and only decided my experience wasn't enough after reviewing it. It would've saved time if he'd read it first. Seemed a bit unprofessional, so I wanted to mention it. Hope this isn't typical.

First, I had a call with the hiring manager. Then, there was an in-person meeting with the hiring manager. After that, I had four more in-person meetings with different staff members and HR, where we talked about the basic terms, did some negotiating, and discussed the contract.

System Design Behavioral

It was a position for SE for ML Platform. The interview process was really fun and helped to gain good understanding of the department/team goals and meet future teammates. The interviews process was: 1. HR screening 2. Interview with Hiring Manager (team lead) -- actually spoke about their current system design and how to improve it 3. Interview with Staff Engineer -- spoke about my previous experience, system design 4. Interview with Principal Engineer -- spoke about some kind of "problem solving skills" based on a MLE-like problem, also had behavioural-like questions 5. HR call / behavioral interview 6. Interview with the Head of Department Suprisingly, there was no coding at all. Only spoke about system design. (Yet, if I were to hire someone, I would add at least 1 coding interview for sanity check). Overall, I would say that the process felt lengthy (like 5.5 hours of interviews in total), but helped to meet most of the "key players", draw a good picture. Unlike FAANG-like interviews that just check your skills in an abstract world, here there is a specific team that wants to hire a good teammate for them.
