I applied for the Coordinator III role 3 times. The first time, I interviewed, but they emailed that the role wouldn't be filled. A month later, I applied again and moved forward, being told I was being considered. Days later, I was told the role wouldn't be filled. Most recently, I was rejected without an interview because they said my experience was more communications-related, even though I have 8 years of tech experience and a graduate degree in tech, and they only required 5 years. The constant back-and-forth and lack of clarity were disappointing. The inconsistencies left me feeling like I was getting mixed signals with no clear explanation.

After I did a 25-minute writing assignment, I got invited to a 25-minute panel interview. Three interviewers were there and they asked me questions about my skills, experience and qualifications for the job. Even though it was short on time, I felt pretty good because the interviewers were nice and encouraging. It was a good experience overall and I feel positive about it.

My wife teaches at the school and upon hearing of the AVID Tutor position and knowing that I was interested, she gave my number to Mrs. McCoy who is in charge of the AVID program at Benbrook Middle High School. She contacted me and we talked over the phone and set up a time to meet. In person we discussed whether or not I would make a good candidate for the position. Upon receiving the job, she then asked for my availability, and then I began working within a week or two.

It was a long interview, over an hour, with four people on the panel. They asked a lot about real-world scenarios and some obscure technical questions. I had to write out results by hand for some sample data that had tricky parts. There wasn't a phone screen, and they didn't talk about salary. They also didn't try to convince me to join. I still haven't heard back after weeks, even though they said I would.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The 25 questions screened for technical skill, which was easy for someone experienced with MS SQL.
  • There was very little asked that wasn't technical.
