Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fort Bend ISD.
Substitute Teacher
It was a really fast digital interview! You join a main Zoom room with other candidates. Your group's administrator will tell you what's next (take a pic so you remember). Then, you'll go into breakout rooms for your interview with a principal. Since it's a quick 10-minute interview, be brief and to the point. It felt really rushed, usually interviews are at least 30 minutes.
- Why did you decide to become a substitute teacher?
- How would you handle a situation where a teacher did not provide a lesson plan for your class?
Teacher
It was a pretty extensive process, but I think it was worth it in the end. The people interviewing me were really polite throughout. They asked questions that I should know the answers to, but they did throw in a few curveballs too. As long as you're honest, they'll give you the chance to show your best self.
- What makes you the most suitable candidate for our school?
Teacher
You start by applying and sending your resume to principals. It's important to research high-performing schools and avoid ones with overbearing parents. The interviews themselves are generally easy. Some principals are really desperate and will hire pretty much anyone. Others are quite picky and look for specific things. New hires attend an orientation before starting their regular contract days on campus.
