Educator
The interview process was pretty straightforward. After applying and sending in my resume, they got back to me pretty fast about an interview. The interview could be done online or in person. I picked in person so I could get a good feel for the environment.
- What motivated your decision to pursue a career as an educator?
Substitute Teacher
It was a really fast digital interview! You join a main Zoom room with other candidates. Your group's administrator will tell you what's next (take a pic so you remember). Then, you'll go into breakout rooms for your interview with a principal. Since it's a quick 10-minute interview, be brief and to the point. It felt really rushed, usually interviews are at least 30 minutes.
- Why did you decide to become a substitute teacher?
- How would you handle a situation where a teacher did not provide a lesson plan for your class?
Elementary Teacher
The district is implementing a standardized interview process across all schools. I underwent three interviews at three separate schools, and each interview involved the same questions and an essay writing component. The interviews felt more like tests than opportunities to get to know me, focusing on the differences between educational terminologies. One interview was particularly intense, with eight people questioning me simultaneously. It has been a week, and I haven't received any feedback.
- Can you explain the distinction between ELPS and TELPAS?
Purchasing Assistant
I got invited to an interview and was told there would be an assessment beforehand. I got there 15 minutes early, and the receptionist made it seem like I was too early. I was sat near the door in a busy area. After 20 minutes, she gave me a paper with about 4 or 5 questions. I asked if this was the test and she said yes. The assessment was easy, with basic questions found online, but it was hard to focus because people kept walking by and talking loudly. The interview panel had 3 people, two women and one man. I knew I wouldn't get the job because while I was answering questions, he looked at the ceiling and around like he was bored, with body language saying 'Why am I wasting my time here?'. It was distracting. I thanked them politely and left. I didn't like how they asked for references to provide information before deciding to interview you. Normally, employers check references when they're ready to offer the job, which indicates a good interview. FBISD and HISD waste everyone's time with this. Also, for every position you apply for, they bother your references with the same questions. They should at least keep the reference responses on file for a few months. Anyway, no interview experience is negative because it helps you for future interviews. I was out in about an hour. Within a week, I got an email saying I wasn't selected.
- Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.
- How do you approach conflict resolution?
- What is your experience in purchasing?
