User Experience Researcher
Got an email for a phone interview about a week or two after applying. Had a 30-minute phone chat within a few days. Told them I was interviewing elsewhere and they were cool with it, setting up the next interview real fast. This one was over video chat with two team members, lasted about an hour. We talked about general stuff and the technical details of my experience. Since I couldn't come in person, they gave me some problems to do in an hour.
- Can you share details about your background in research?
Researcher
The interview process was fine, things moved pretty fast at the start of the hiring process. It was after the interview was done that the company really fell short. After a week, I had to be the one to ask for an update. They told me they were still deciding so I waited another week and emailed again. That one went unanswered for another week until I sent a THIRD email asking for an update. Only then did someone FINALLY tell me I didn't get the job. I'm totally convinced that if I hadn't emailed them, I would've never heard back. That's definitely not how you treat someone who went through 3 interviews with you. Unacceptable.
- What statistical concepts do you know?
Researcher
I had an in-person interview that was about 2 hours long. The first hour was the standard interview, and the second hour was this exercise to see if I had the basic skills needed. There were two Senior Researchers who interviewed me, and they were really nice and listened to what I had to say. They asked pretty typical questions about how I work with others, my work ethic, and how I deal with issues when they come up. The second hour was a set of tasks that are like what I'd be doing in the job. Pretty straightforward stuff overall.
- Can you tell me about a mistake you made and how you dealt with it?
