Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Formlabs.
Engineer
The interview process feels excessively long considering the low compensation. It's as if they perceive themselves as a top-tier company, expecting candidates to be desperate to join. Honestly, don't get your hopes too high; just proceed through the steps, and if you get an offer, you get an offer. They don't seem to value their own time.
- A technical challenge was presented.
- Questions based on your resume were asked generally.
Engineer
The interview process was one of the longest and most frustrating experiences I've had. It started with a recruiter reaching out for an engineering role. The recruiter gave a general overview of the process. I expressed concern about the length, but Formlabs' reputation made me want to continue. A week later, I had a 30-minute call with someone from the team about my background. After another week of no contact, I followed up and received a take-home technical exercise, estimated to take no more than 3 hours. A couple of days after submitting it, I had a video interview to discuss my solution with competent engineers. A few days after that, I was invited for an on-site visit for more interviews, which involved multiple whiteboard sessions with different teams. This part felt like a brainstorming session, and I felt I performed well. I also met with the CEO, who seemed disengaged and spent most of the time on his laptop, occasionally asking questions. We were given a tour of impressive facilities. I was told I'd hear back by the end of the week. After two more weeks of sporadic communication, I received a low offer, below the previously discussed range. I declined due to frustration. The entire process, from initial contact to the offer, took about three months. While the company seems technically sound with smart people, the extensive interview process raises concerns about the work environment.
- What motivates you to seek employment at Formlabs?
Engineer
It was a standard interview for an entry-level engineer. I had a good chat with them and they asked relevant questions about my background. Overall, it was a positive experience and I learned about the company's goals and what they're looking for.
- Can you tell me about your greatest strength?
