Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ford Motor Company.
Product Development
I had a phone chat with two managers that lasted about 45 minutes. They asked typical questions about how I'd handle situations and some personal stuff. No coding or technical questions.
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenging situation and how you handled it.
- Describe a situation where you had to work with a difficult colleague.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Product Development
I interviewed over the phone a couple of weeks after meeting them at a campus career fair. It was a pretty standard behavioral interview. I heard back about two weeks later. The key is to have good stories (with a lesson learned) ready for the behavioral questions. Also, make sure to sound confident and not awkward when answering. They have an online test now, but that wasn't part of the process last year.
- Can you tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult situation?
- Share an example of a time you demonstrated leadership.
- Describe a situation where you had to solve a complex problem.
Product Development
I got the job because I knew someone at Ford who passed my info along to the hiring team. After some email exchanges, I had a phone interview with two people from Ford. They asked me questions about my behavior, past experiences, and projects. After that, I got an offer. If you're interviewing, I'd suggest being ready to talk about your past engineering projects and experiences and how they influenced you. They might ask you to describe the project or your experience working on it.
- What are your thoughts on workplace ethics?
- Tell me about your previous work experience.
- Describe a situation where you came up with an innovative solution for a project.
