I went through an interview process via an Engineering HR agency. I was greeted at the entrance and then had conversations with two of their managers. It was mostly a discussion-based interview, where we talked about a variety of topics related to the job.

The interview will check your technical knowledge and soft skills. It starts with technical questions about mechatronic systems in the auto industry, like integrating sensors, actuators, and controls for electric power steering, or your experience with CAN/LIN. We'll also ask about embedded systems, MATLAB/Simulink or SolidWorks, and automation/production line experience. Then, we'll get into situational questions, such as describing a project where you designed a full mechatronic system or how you'd handle a prototype failing a critical pre-launch test. There will also be questions on manufacturing, quality, continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma), and emerging tech like electric mobility and autonomous driving, for example, 'Which Ford innovation area interests you?'. Lastly, we'll look at your people skills with scenarios involving teamwork, tight deadlines, or problem-solving. Basically, we're looking for a mechatronics engineer who's technically sound, practical, and can adapt to the fast-paced auto industry.

The interview went super well! The people were nice and really patient. A lot of the questions came from an internship project where I designed a six-degrees-of-freedom flexible trolley for weight lifting. They asked about my knowledge of Strength of Materials and Finite Element Methods that I used in that project. It was entirely technical for about 40 minutes. They also asked a few things about fluid mechanics, and refrigeration and air conditioning. It felt more like a chat than an interview. I think I did well on most of it, but I missed a couple of fluid mechanics questions. Since I also know some Python and data science, they asked me about that too. Then there were HR questions like why I want to join the company, and at the end, I got to ask questions about the company. Overall, a really good experience.
