Process Engineer
I had a really disappointing experience with Ford Ion Park's hiring process for a Battery Raw Materials Engineer / Battery Cell Engineer role in Michigan. The job posting was misleading, stating a compensation level of HTHD GSR 7-8 ($93,900-$188,400), but after several interview rounds, they offered me a level 6 position with a salary in the 90s. I tried to negotiate for a level 7 and a higher base salary, but they came back with a written offer for level 7 at $97k and a $5k signing bonus, giving me very little time to accept. When I tried to negotiate further, they didn't get back to me by the offer's expiration date as promised. When I followed up, they rescinded the offer. They justified the low offer by talking about Michigan's cost of living, which didn't make sense given the salary ranges posted were for Michigan. They also compared my potential salary to an underpaid team member, which raised red flags about how they value employees. They were unwilling to offer RSUs or a higher signing bonus. Overall, it felt like they were looking for the cheapest candidate rather than the best fit, and their communication and negotiation tactics were poor.

Process Engineer
The interview process was pretty quick and easy until I got an offer. After applying, I had to do a personality test. Then, I got a call to set up a quick screening interview with a few questions. The interviewer typed everything I said. About a week later, I got a call to schedule a phone interview with the hiring manager and another person. A week after that, I got an offer. The offer stage was annoying. I had questions about the PTO and called the HR person I was given. They told me to re-read the offer and gave me a new contact if I still had questions. I called the new person, and they couldn't help me, so they transferred me to someone else. This person admitted the offer wasn't clear on PTO but wouldn't give me a definite answer unless I accepted. I didn't accept because I got a better offer. If I could have gotten a clear answer about the offer, it would have been a good experience.
- Tell me about a mistake you made at work and how you handled it.
