So after like two rounds of interviews, Ford gave me a verbal offer, we already talked about salary and start date and like everything seemed set. Then, a week later, they called and said the role’s requirements changed and the offer was rescinded. It’s really unprofessional and disheartening when this happens. Candidates spend a lot of time and trust on these processes, and a verbal offer with no follow-through is not okay. If they weren’t ready to commit, they shouldn’t have moved forward. Ford missed out on someone smart, driven, and who doesn’t quit. They’ll never know. I can’t see myself taking any future offer from Ford after this.

So after the application and resume review, we do a phone screening, and then if you pass that, you might get invited for a first-round interview. This is with the hiring managers, and they'll check out your experience, skills, and if you'd fit in with the team. There's also a technical or skills assessment, like an Excel test. Then we do behavioral interviews, which are all about how you've handled tough situations or conflicts before, basically looking for examples of your problem-solving and people skills. After that, there's a final interview.

Confirmed questions3 questions

  • How would you explain finance stuff to someone who doesn't know finance?

The role was for an MBA summer financial analyst. About a week before the interview, I was given a capital budgeting case to work on. I had to present my recommendations and assumptions to two finance managers who visited the campus. They also asked some behavioral questions. I put a lot of effort into preparing the case, and they seemed to really like my assumptions and recommendations. Although I didn't make it to the second round, in that next round, they brought together the four candidates who did to discuss the case further with some new information. This was to see how they interacted with each other in a real-time setting. I think I would have performed better in that kind of scenario. I asked for feedback on why I didn't advance. They mentioned I didn't make enough eye contact while presenting and lacked sufficient energy, which they referred to as 'management presence.' Looking back, I should have focused less on the analysis itself and more on practicing my presentation, as they were looking for someone who could clearly communicate their ideas. They did express interest in interviewing me again next year for the full-time position.

  • Can you detail the assumptions you made for the finance case?
  • How would you respond in a specific scenario?
