Submitted my application online. Then got invited to an online test. A few days later, had a phone call (30min). If successful, I was invited to an Assessment Center. It was a 1-day event with 6 candidates and 6 assessors. This was around 2015-2017. The atmosphere was friendly and fair throughout. The Assessment Center was professional, I was very tired at the end of the day and thought I had messed up. In between, I could chat informally with employees of the company, which was interesting and pleasant because there were young colleagues who had recently been in my position.

The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and sounded very excited about how well I fit the role, mentioning the hiring manager was eager to interview me. A few days later, the interview was set up. I asked the recruiter about the pay range for the position, wanting to know before the interview. They said they didn't have that info but would have the lead recruiter call me. The lead recruiter called a few hours later and immediately said they were reconsidering my fit. I confirmed if the interview was still happening, and they said yes. I reiterated my desire to know the pay range before the interview, emphasizing my high value on company pay transparency. The lead recruiter responded by saying pay transparency was very important to Ford - *candidate pay transparency*. I clarified that wasn't the definition of pay transparency. When they repeated the phrase *candidate pay transparency*, I decided this wasn't a good fit. I emailed the person who scheduled the interview, explaining I was passing on the position due to the conversation. Although I didn't state it in the email, it was clear the lead recruiter was intentionally misusing the term pay transparency. The following day, Ford sent me a rejection email.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Considering the increasing number of states mandating company pay transparency in job postings, I find it quite surprising that a Ford recruiter would take such a stance.

I was contacted by a recruitment agency for a Business Analyst role. It took about a month to even get an interview scheduled, and then another three weeks to hear back after that, so you definitely need to be patient. I had other offers, but I really wanted this one, even though the pay wasn't what I hoped for. The experience felt more important.
