Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ford Foundation.
Intern
I had one interview with the department I was applying for. It was okay overall, but one interviewer seemed disengaged, showing up late and appearing uninterested, even checking their phone and staring off. The other interviewer was fine and engaged, but the overall experience was quite odd, making me question my chances.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What is your interest in the Ford Foundation?
- What attracts you to this specific department?
Intern
There were two rounds of interviews. The first was with a recruiter where they asked general questions about Ford and your potential interests in departments. The second interview was with the hiring manager and questions were more specific to the department you were placed in.
- What makes you passionate about social justice?
- How do you see philanthropy fitting into social justice, and what changes would you suggest?
Intern
It was pretty standard. I spoke with HR first, then with the department I'm applying to. They asked straightforward questions about my resume and my strengths/weaknesses. After that, I had to do an online skills assessment. Got an offer a few days later.
- Can you describe a situation where you demonstrated leadership skills?
