First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Food Lion.
Customer Service Manager
The interview process was brief and direct. They asked me in-depth questions about various hypothetical situations and how I would manage them. I met with both the department manager and the store manager. The atmosphere was relaxed, allowing for casual conversation and even some humor with the interviewers. They were helpful in rephrasing questions if I didn't fully understand them, ensuring I could provide a relevant answer. They were transparent about the job's challenges and assured me of their support and guidance if I were to get the position (which I did).
- What are your methods for assigning tasks to others?
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a challenging customer and how you fixed the issue?
- How do you plan to lead and encourage your staff?
Customer Service Manager
So I applied for the Customer Service Manager role initially, but they tried to offer me a different position with less pay, which I turned down. They were pretty sure I wouldn't get the salary I wanted, but a week later, I did. Then, about a year after that, I reapplied for the CSM job. I spoke with the Store Manager, and then the district manager about a week later for a second interview. This time, they offered me the Assistant Store Manager role and promised to call, but they never did. I've noticed they don't really promote from within and prefer to hire experienced people from outside. Honestly, their disorganization is a bit much for me.
- Can you describe your experience in the grocery industry?
Customer Service Manager
I talked to the Store Manager about my experience in Management and Project Management. I sent him my resume. A few months later, he contacted me about upcoming changes at Food Lion and asked if I wanted to help make them happen. I agreed.
- Given that I have many candidates for this position, what makes you the right choice?
- What would my previous manager say is your greatest strength?
- What would my previous manager say you need to work on?
