First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at FMC Technologies.
Associate Engineer
The interview process involved a technical written test, a group discussion, and then a technical and HR interview. They really like practical questions on how machine components are used. Mere bookish knowledge isn't enough; they prefer basics and applications. Don't over-emphasize higher education. Be ready to commit to working there for at least 5 years.
- Tell me about FBD.
- What do you know about heat transfer?
- What is SOM?
Associate Engineer
I got hired through the campus recruitment process. First, there was a written test which was technical and tough but manageable if you have strong basics in strength of materials, machine design, heat transfer, etc. After that, there was a group discussion, followed by an HR interview. Finally, there were two technical interviews. You need to have a good understanding of practical applications of basic concepts and focus on communication skills.
- Technical question: How would you mate two threaded components such that the first component advances by 4 threads for a quarter revolution into the second?
Associate Engineer
I got through off-campus recruitment and cleared 2 rounds, a test and a group discussion. After that, I had 3 interviews. The first was a technical interview based on the test questions. The second was with the HR Manager. The third interview was with the Manager, which included both technical and HR aspects. I'm still waiting to hear back.
- Can you explain the free body diagram of a beam, indicating all the stresses acting on it?
