So the interview process had two interviews, plus some unofficial meetings to get a foot in the door. You know, like that foot-in-the-door technique? I went to a bunch of academic seminars that basically felt like interviews and let me meet people from FMC Technologies. Then, the second interview was with HR and a Group Engineering Manager. They started with typical HR questions, pretty standard stuff if you've interviewed before. The last few questions were more specific to engineering and what FMC does, like asking 'what would you do?' Make sure you talk through your thinking out loud. Don't be shy.

I was contacted by their onsite recruiter. I had one face-to-face interview with the hiring manager and the technical lead. The technical lead asked most of the questions, which were all technical. The hiring manager, who is the boss of the manager, mostly listened. Towards the end, he talked about the company culture and policies.

The process to get to the actual interview was a bit of a scavenger hunt. The recruiter gave me an interview date and time but no specific location details like a building or office number. My interview was at the Lone Star campus off of 249, and finding the right building was part of the challenge, especially in the pouring rain while trying to keep myself and my folder dry. After locating the training center in one building, I had to hurry to the next building over and hope I was on the right floor. After all that, I got an email from the recruiter saying she had meetings that morning, even though she had scheduled the interview a week prior. Beyond that initial hiccup, the interview itself was pretty standard with straightforward questions.

  • I was handed a sectioned view of a running tool and asked how I would go about taking it apart.
