There were about twenty of us interviewing for the store before it opened. We all met at a hotel and saw a presentation about the company. The main speaker said customers come first, and we come second, which was a bit odd to me. Then we had to write about ourselves and hobbies and then present it to everyone. After that, we had to pick up an item from a table, think for five minutes about how to sell it, and then present that too. Later, they took us to another room for one-on-one interviews. I waited over an hour. The manager seemed friendly but also miserable, describing the job as grueling and soul-sucking, not trying to sell it to me. She asked questions that weren't on any of the sites I prepared for. When I finished answering, she would just stare, which felt intimidating.

I had an interview with Flying Tiger for a Retail Sales position. It was at one of their stores, in a small office/storage area. I was even offered a seat on a ladder, which was unusual, but the store manager who interviewed me was really nice and friendly. She knew I was new to the job market and gave me advice on improving my resume. Even though I suspected I wouldn't be hired, they still interviewed me and gave me a valuable learning experience.

  • Do you have previous retail experience?
  • Are you familiar with operating a cash register?
  • Have you previously worked in customer service?
