Operations Manager
I applied online for an "operations manager" job. I got a bot email saying I was shortlisted, but when I tried to schedule with the recruiter, the website said no timeslots were available. I had to email the recruiter to get them to set up my interview. The recruiter and I talked, and at the end of the first call, we talked about salary. The recruiter said they'd check with their manager about approval, but never got back to me and just scheduled the next round. Then I met the hiring manager who wasn't paying attention and said we had "agreed" on terms, which wasn't true. I was moved to a second round without any salary discussion. This whole process was a waste of time.
- Can you discuss conflict management?
- Why do you think you're a good fit for our company?
- Are you aware of our company's program?
Operations Manager
The interview process involved an initial chat with a colleague, followed by a meeting with a senior manager, and finally a discussion with the team leader. There were also questions about daily operations and role expectations.
- How would you handle bus drivers?
Operations Manager
I went through 2 of the 3 stages. HR initially sold it as a fully remote analytics role with some business travel. However, in later interviews with the head of ops, who is very old school, they revealed that the 'regional' aspect of the title was a mistake and that the job would actually involve a lot of work on buses incognito. This includes testing service levels during night trips or spending the day at stops to check partner punctuality. They didn't specify routes, distance from home, or the exact area of responsibility. There's also limited growth potential; I was literally told, 'to grow means you have to take my job.' I think my disappointment and loss of interest were evident. No offer was made, but I wouldn't have accepted it anyway.
- What motivates you to switch careers?
- How familiar are you with this sector?
- What's your understanding of our company?
